Secure Shell or SSH is a network protocol that allows data to be exchanged using a secure channel between two networked devices. Used primarily on Linux and Unix based systems to access shell accounts, SSH was designed as a replacement for TELNET and other insecure remote shells, which sent information, notably passwords, in plaintext, leaving them open for interception. The encryption used by SSH provides confidentiality and integrity of data over an insecure network, such as the Internet.

Personally I use SFTP, and SSH all the time when I’m connecting to my websites. Editing files, or uploading websites is a sensitive issue, especially when you’re talking about social networking sites or others that are susceptible to hacking attempts. But what happens when you need to connect to a remote computer via the internet? Some times when I’m at my “real” job I’d like to connect to my home computer so I have access to software, or files. That’s why I’m glad that I’ve got the option to do so with SSHD. Pragma Systems has some amazing products for windows, or linux systems, and has even created specialty programs for many of the fortune 500 companies so that they are connected, via the internet. Keeping your company connected via SSHD, SFTP, or other internet protocols is important for businesses of any size today.
